Self Defense for Women

of All Ages

*Disclaimer: In no way is this a substitute for a seminar. This only serves as a refresher for those who have attended seminars and provides basic information on self defense and my Gold Award.

About My Project

This project is for my Gold Award. This award is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn and follows the Bronze and Silver Awards. I wanted to combine my computer skills and passion for self defense into one cohesive project for the betterment of my community and hopefully all communities. I have been training in a Korean martial art, Tang Soo Do, for over 17 years and have achieved black belt rank. The most influential person in our karate school is a woman, Susan Jackson. She is our lead instructor, my mentor, and my master. Her lifetime dedication to empowering women has inspired me. Many of the techniques I teach here I learned from her. My self defense curriculum is heavily influenced by her core style, Zen Do Kai. My curriculum is also heavily influenced by Ama Guro Raffy Pambuan (more information below) who designed the KeyGuard. Some of the techniques are wholly my own.

Along with creating this website, I have been hosting self defense seminars for different age groups (Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and College/beyond). At different times in life we face unique dangers and are also limited in how we can defend ourselves in different ways. I therefore designed age specific, distinct curricula to empower women of all ages. For example, college co-eds face obstacles on campuses different from High School students. My curricula adjusts for this. Elementary level students are limited in their ability to physically respond to threats. My curricula for them stresses more mental responses, focusing on yelling and running. More information about curriculum can be found          .

Protecting ourselves should be a top priority for all of us. Perhaps the best lesson I learned from my lifetime of training is that anyone can learn these techniques. You do not need to be a black belt to protect yourself. My curricula techniques are designed to be simple, practical, and for anyone to learn. Thank you for being part of my project. Even if only one person is protected from harm because of my teachings, then my project has been a complete success. Tang soo!
